Weekend @ Ed's: Bumblr vs 30DC

I know Ed said everyone chill and soldier on. I'm cool with that Ed, especially since I didn't get nuked. Many Xtreme members did lose their Bumblr blogs. Bumblr just ate 'em.
No notice, just a wholesale obliteration. I hope this is an aberration in the Web 2.0 world. People on Planet 2.0 are aware of the many newbies, hell we're all newbies really.

My experience has been very positive. Perhaps in the insular world of 30DC some of us get a false sense of security & comfort. Regardless, I was astonished by the Bumblr decision to wipeout all those blogs. Bumblr will look back at this defining moment with regret.

I think I just got nuked too. Wordpress/Blogger here I come...

Day 15 & 16: Absolutely nothing wrong in achieving

This was submitted by a very scholarly individual from London, England. Through all the tech and intensity of of 30DC, there is a beautiful message for us to hear...

There is absolutely nothing wrong in achieving the best that one can achieve in whatever sphere of life we are involved in. Personal high performance should not be something we should feel guilty about or be made to feel guilty about. In fact there is a moral imperative here. We are called to create and to achieve. Not to do so is tantamount to neglecting and denying our God/Universe/Nature-given talents and skills. We are forbidden to bury our light under a bushel. We are, however, instructed to go and out and build on whatever we already have in order for it to increase and multiply.
Despite this we often have such a negative view of success, excellence and achievement. It's as if there is something inherently wrong or unhealthy about it. We therefore have to be quiet and subdued about our successes. We often deride those who have 'made it'. We want to knock them and we take pleasure in seeing them suffer. A false humility must prevail. This is, of course, part of that Victorian hypocrisy we are all familiar with. But it is also partly due to the Protestant Work Ethic (Calvinistic and Puritan), which came out of the Reformation in 16th Century. Constant labour was a sign that we took our duty to work seriously and that this work was for the benefit of other individuals and society as a whole. Work diligently (for it is a mark that salvation has taken root in a person's life). Nothing wrong in all that! But keep quiet about it and do not boast.
Nobody is advocating arrogance and pomposity here.
Nevertheless we need to celebrate our successes and not be afraid to achieve and work for excellence.
So, although there is nothing wrong in high performance it has to be pursued with a sense of purpose. Not merely for personal gain and private aggrandisement. The more we succeed the more we must be aware the moral responsibility that rests with us. Perhaps, it is summed up best in the statement 'to whom much is given much will be required'. This is a distinct moral code that has to be followed. People must always come first and anything that takes away from the dignity of human beings is morally repugnant. So that any success that comes about through exploitation and degradation and is based on greed and power has to be condemned unequivocally.
So, by all means aim for the great heights and do not be ashamed of reaching the top, but always with a sense of true humility, never losing sight of the even greater heights that are found in the true values and goals of life. The values of respect and love founded on the premise that all real success and high performance should be for the betterment of the lives of millions of human beings who inhabit this planet.
Go out achieve the best. Celebrate it. Do not deny it. Then give it away. Therein lies true High Achievement and true Satisfaction.

30DC Xtreme Freefall...attempting entry...Planet 2.0

Day 6 Monday.06Aug07 AM Xtreme Post: Enlighten me u say...

Only you can enlighten yourself...

Okay, sure, why not. I'll switch on a light in the open concept room...

Web 1.0 was static.

Web 2.0 is dynamic & beyond.

W2 is like life itself(getting there)... point being, life is about particpation really, sans all the unearthly distractions. I have a high performance sport coaching background and I wanted to merge this with a new type of open team, nonteam , anti-team, uberteam, superteam, equalteam, web2.0team, concept-team, where the membership or players/athletes (us/humans) really coached ourselves by, you guessed it, by participating. my job as a coach/mentor/friend/member then becomes to encourage participation.

So we can do intervals, plyometrics and calculate rest to work ratios, or we can give each other hope, confidence & courage. You can't here me blow a whistle on the net anyway... well not yet (shhhh, possible niche market...please eat this blog after reading)

that's it in a 'net'shell...

Day 5: Surfing Speed Bumps on Planet 2.0

Tm X continues to experience substantial growth. Temporarily lost one member, myself, due to a complaint about my sig file and my habit of including a link to the Tm X FB site, which FB considers to be a form of spam ... as one member stated, "Bizarre."

Most of us feel we are wandering, sometimes aimlessly, through the webverse. Remember everyone, and I mean everyone is learning. Landed on a different planet today which, oddly enough, had a University of 2.0 R&D department... check it out for yourself:

They Herd CatsToo: The Great Day 3 30DC Server Collapse

...server crash? what? r u nuts? you think a little server crash can stop the avalanche you’ve created. you’re herding cats now. even if it ended right now, it is an indisputable triumph. like showing a 1000 factory farmed cows the world’s largest, plushest, greenest pasture. what scares me is you guys probably know how to herd cats too…

This was Deb(thx Deb) inspired (please feel free to tweak/ATC:Advance The Concept):

30DC...it is MLM meets the secret meets SEO meets the web meets the techies meets the masses = about a 1000 people trying to make their first 10 bucks on the web... it is the 30 day challenge.
people are spending amazing amounts of money on the web, the big buck stuff, the large industries are a wrap, can't penetrate that, but the specialty markets, the smaller niche markets are showing exponential growth. it all comes back to how searches are conducted and perhaps even more importantly, how you are linked to others... think of it this way, take downtown NYC, if you are a little shop beside some huge chain store selling widgets and i mean a little shop, the size of a mouse hole, just that big 2" x 2", you would not get much business cuz NO one can see you, but what if all the other shops KNEW about you and told their customers, hey go check out deb's little shop of widgets and they gave the customer the precise, specific and exact coordinates (URL/LINK) to get to your widget shop... you would have a line up a mile long!
SO... just 'cuz you don't have a huge storefront and tons of dough, doesn't mean you can't move product/volume. as long as people know how to find you, via other links to you, other businesses, other means(technorati, Digg, Squidoo, et al), searches, etc, they WILL exchange money for your product or service. imagine even further if every time one of the shops referred you, they were given an incentive/reward. they would gladly do it again.
A very simple and basic explanation of the new web 2.0 marketplace.
Now, what i/we are learning are the tools being used by the web 2.0 movement. They are new, creative, hip but very different from the old web 1.0 tools. Google/ebay, et al, have transformed the web. It is all 100's of complex algorithms based on types of pure traffic, presence and awareness. SEO: Search Engine Optimization & Referrals, good old fashioned Word of Mouth, 21st Century style...extremely complex yes, yet also, like the human body, very simple. if we eat right and exercise, avoid bad habits we'll be okay. if you don't, well you could spend millions and have an army of doctors trying to keep you alive... The secret being - - you have to believe and you have to embrace the lifestyle (to extend the metaphor...) It is still business, it still requires hardwork and brains, a conviction and love of what you are doing.
so over the next 30 days we are learning how to eat right, exercise, avoid bad habits in the Xtreme Web 2.0 environment so we can thrive beyond the 30 days...

Day 3::30DC + 1:Visualizing Success Scenarios:The Epiphany

It doesn't take long for a summer camper to decide if she is enjoying the experience. Camp is either a competently run affair or bluntly, it is a dismal, unorganized mess. The former applies to the mostly adult, 30 Day Challenge. Camp Coordinator, Dan Raine and his capable Camp Director, Ed Dale keep the roughly 1000 campers engaged with niche research activities, downloads, networking and so much icebreaking you'd think we were all in the high arctic. Challengers are in a marathon and it is apparent we have already lost some of the original recruits, but a strong, fit, resilient core continues to chase the dream of learning how to make $10 on the web from an original idea they have chosen, within 30 days.

With so many achieving a consciousness about the potential of the net while pursuing ten bucks, the 30DC has become a bona fide grassroots movement. Like so many true collective efforts in history that have risen from the masses, hope is the adrenaline that is firing the human pistons of this empowerment engine. With hope comes the possibility of success. There is a very tangible sense that we are involved in something special and it now becomes incumbent on us to visualize our success. Those who have made this breakthrough (make no mistake, success is a mental exercise in overcoming the fear of that which you seek) are well on their way to making a ten spot and then some. Seeing the horizon beyond 30 days is the 30DC epiphany.

Day 2:30DC Cheat Sheet: Creating the Understanding

30DC Day 2
Quick Obs:
There are many helpful people in this summer camp-like gig.
Best to be super extroverted. Cold call anyone involved, but as with trad cold calls, best to do your homework ie RESEARCH. SEO is the name and the game is Web 2.0. Or vice versa. Predicting web 2.0 is like predicting the full grown size of a baby... everyone has their own learning style, accept it. The ring leaders are super tech savvy. If they were coaching soccer they'd be in the World Cup. If you're on dial up without a cell, you're not out of this. This is a marathon, not a sprint...take care of yourself. May be helpful for some to think beyond 30 days...

I found the following sites to be helpful today:
http://www.hearmyw00t.com/
sample:
11 Great ways to find niches:
1 Google Trends
2 Yahoo! Buzz
3 Lycos 50
4 AOL Hot searches
5 Ask Top Searches
6 Amazon Hot New releases
7 Whats hot at ebay
8 Google News - Whats popular
9 Google Zeitgeist
10 Barnes and Noble’s Top 10 everything
11 OK I lied, there are only 10. Write the 11th yourself and stick it in a comment. Much appreciated :).

*She is really boiling it down, so if you need a bridge between the tech and the reality, Kelly's got it pegged.

And for esthetics, Rob, another 30CD'ers site:

Quote
A top ranked SEO blog Seomoz.org has reported, "Search marketers, in a twist of irony, receive a very small share of their traffic from search engines." Instead, their main sources of traffic are links from other websites."

great article btw!

PAULitical PAULicy for Day 2:
"Ignore farming at your peril. We live on food - not fine words."
"It is a poor country that depends on food from other countries."
"Make friends with a farmer, you'll never regret it."

Day 2 stats
13:04 Hours on the net(dial up)
started 1 blog, made 2 entries
signed up for 8 killer Apps
communicated with 30+ unique and dynamic individuals
As good, if not better, than any summer camp I ever went to.
